AKIPRESS.COM - Kazakhstan will supply electricity to Tajikistan for its additional water from the Syrdarya River, Minister of Energy and Water Reserves of Tajikistan Usmonali Usmonzoda told a press conference recently, Avesta reports. According to the agreement of the two sides, Usmonzoda says, the Kazakh side will give 14 million kw/h of electricity for additional water supplied from the Kayrakkum water reserve to the Tajik side this September, when the flow of water level slows down in the water reserve.
The Minister noted that Tajikistan is providing water from the Kayrakkum water reserve in the volume of 230 cubic meters per second to Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan in July 2019.
About 150 cubic meters out of the total volume go to the needs of Uzbekistan and 80 cubic meters to Kazakhstan. In the first decade of August, the Tajik side will supply 100 cubic meters to Uzbekistan and 80 - to Kazakhstan. The volume of supplied water to Kazakhstan will decrease to 20 cubic meters in the second half of August, the Minister added.
According to Usmonzoda, the Uzbek side needs electricity for operation of pumping stations in Zafarabad district during the irrigation period.
