Bishkek, July 19, 2019 /Kabar/. A regular meeting of the Commission on Road Traffic Safety under the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic was held under the chairmanship of Deputy Prime Minister Jenish Razakov, the press service of the Government reported.
The meeting participants noted negative trend of increasing the number of traffic accidents in almost all regions of the country, except for the sections of roads where the Safe City project is implemented.
The members of the Commission noted the need for full and timely implementation of the measures provided for in the Action Plan for the implementation of a set of measures to reform the road safety system.
Deputy PM Razakov stressed that the heads of specialized state structures bear personal responsibility for the implementation of the Plan and the state of emergency on the roads.
In addition, at the meeting the issue of the advisability of changing fines for certain types of violations of traffic rules was considered.
However, the members of the Commission decided that it would not be appropriate to establish liability for driving under the influence of alcohol within the Code of Violations.
The liability in the form of a fine in the amount of KGS 17,500 (about USD 251) established by the Code of Violations has already had a preventive effect, as a result of which the number of traffic accidents under the influence of alcohol has decreased, and the number of registered violations of this category at the end of the six-month period decreased by a factor of three and amounted to 2,211 facts (5,911 for the same period in 2018).
At the meeting the sides touched upon the issues of certification of the republic's highways, toughening the control over the activity of driving schools, as well as the necessity of liquidation of the dangerous road sections.
Following the meeting, a number of relevant instructions were given to the relevant public authorities.
