Bishkek, July 24, 2019. / Kabar/. The Ministry of Health of Kyrgyzstan announced the start of the monthly campaign timed to coincide with the World Hepatitis Day, the infectious diseases specialist at the WHO Regional Office in the Kyrgyz Republic Kaliya Kasymbekova told during a press conference at Kabar News Agency.
She said that the main purpose of the event is to draw public attention to the problem of the spread of hepatitis among the population, to improve the prevention of this disease and to achieve the elimination of viral hepatitis in the country.
"From 8 to 22 thousand cases of diseases are registered in the country," she said. - The largest share - 30% - hepatitis A. Basically, children under 14 years of age - 84%. "
Kasymbekova noted that mostly people fall ill through the contact-household transmission route, since water provision in the republic is 72.2%.
The Ministry of Health notes that Kyrgyzstan belongs to countries with a high incidence of acute and chronic viral hepatitis (B, C, D), transmitted through blood.
World Hepatitis Day is celebrated annually on July 28.
