All schools in Kyrgyzstan to be connected to Internet by September this year

Bishkek, July 24, 2019. /Kabar/. In Kyrgyzstan, less than 20% of the population has access to broadband Internet, Kubanychbek Shatemirov, the Deputy Chairman of the State Committee for Information Technologies and Communications said at the Government’s meeting.
He noted that an important role in providing broadband Internet is played by the Digital CASA - Kyrgyzstan project.
"As part of the Digital CASA project, access to the Internet will be organized for all citizens of Kyrgyzstan by stimulating the development of network infrastructure and providing Internet services throughout the country. In total, more than 1,200 km of fiber optic cables will be laid across the country to provide at least 60% of the country's population with access to the Internet. The project also aims to connect more than 80 institutions and public authorities and more than 4 thousand social facilities to the G-Net network," he said.
He added that activities are underway to provide schools with the Internet.
"Thus, 579 schools out of 660 general education institutions have already been physically connected. The remaining 81 schools will be connected to the Internet by September 1, 2019. During the implementation of this project, Kyrgyztelecom OJSC connected 288 local authorities, 580 medical institutions (hospitals, polyclinics, groups of family doctors, midwife centers), as well as work is underway to connect post offices," the deputy chairman added.
