AKIPRESS.COM - Director of the Ohotzooprom anti-poaching company of Kazakhstan Erzat Alzakov shared his opinion on how to effectively fight against poaching in the country, Tengrinews.kz reported. According to him, the law against poaching in Kazakhstan is soft. Poachers are detained and fined only.
"We have long been struggling to make a real punishment (imprisonment) for poaching instead of suspended sentences. We have long been insisted on it. Our proposals within several years are ignored by the government," Alzakov said.
The chief inspector said that inspectors want to have a right to use firearms. "They can not use guns even in chasing cases. They can not shoot at cars even, as it is not permitted. We can use guns only if there is a real life threat, when poachers shoot at us. We offered to make the law as in America, where any disobedience gives the right to use guns," he noted.
After a tragic death of the inspector during his work, the government promised to increase salaries, but Alzakov said it did not happen.
According to him, inspectors salary is 80-90 thousand tenge. Due to the low salaries, there is a shortage of employees, Alzakov said.
