Bishkek, July 25, 2019. /Kabar/. 10-year-old Kyrgyzstani Emilia Almazova beat the leading European athletes at the World karate championship in the Czech Republic.
During the press conference at Kabar Agency Nurzhigit Kadyrbekov, the President of the Shōtōkan Karate National Federation told that the tournament was held in Hradec Králové on July 19-23 with the participation of 25 domestic karate fighters.
The team managed to win 9 medals, including 1 gold, 1 silver and 7 bronze.
"The national team rivals were the leading karate players of Portugal, Belgium, Denmark, Turkey and many other countries, in general 52 teams took part in the competition. The Kyrgyz team took third place in the team event, moreover, the domestic athletes have risen to 19th place in the world ranking," Nurzhigit Kadyrbekov said.
"Emilia Almazova won the first place in kata, and in the kumite she became a silver medalist," the Federation's head said proudly about the young athlete, who became the first winner of the world championship in the history of Kyrgyzstan.
"Four years ago we have started this work, three our athletes were able to make their way to the World Cup finals and won medals," Kadyrbekov concluded.
Shōtōkan is a style of karate, developed from various martial arts by Gichin Funakoshi (1868–1957) and his son Gigo (Yoshitaka) Funakoshi (1906–1945). Gichin was born in Okinawa and is widely credited with popularizing "karate do" through a series of public demonstrations, and by promoting the development of university karate clubs, including those at Keio, Waseda, Hitotsubashi (Shodai), Takushoku, Chuo, Gakushuin, and Hosei.
