Bishkek, July 26, 2019 /Kabar/. "Two fraternal peoples of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan have lived since ancient times and today live in peace and harmony," Kyrgyz President Sooronbay Jeenbekov said at the meeting with his Tajik counterpart Emomali Rahmon.
The meeting is taking place in Isfara city, Tajikistan as part of the short-term working visit of the Kyrgyz leader.
Sooronbay Jeenbekov noted that he considers today's meeting as a historic one.
"For the first time since our independence, the Kyrgyz and Tajik leaders met in the border area of the two countries. This happened thanks to the wise decision of distinguished Emomali Rahmon, who supported our proposal," he said, expressing his wish to identify priority areas for further cooperation between the countries.
"Of course, our meeting will lay a solid foundation for continuing the political dialogue and organizing your official visit to Kyrgyzstan," Sooronbay Jeenbekov said.
"Unfortunately, there's been an incident in our border area recently. We need to jointly and objectively investigate it and take concrete measures to prevent similar situations in the future," the Kyrgyz President stressed.
"We propose to make the negotiation process dynamic and effective. There is important to continue working on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border issues. I am convinced that we will jointly turn our borders into a gateway to creation, peace and prosperity," Sooronbay Jeenbekov said.
At the end of the meeting in Isfara, the leaders will arrive in Cholpon-Ata, Issyk-Kul Oblast of Kyrgyzstan. Negotiations between the Presidents will continue tomorrow, July 27. They will discuss all issues of bilateral cooperation, including the demarcation and delimitation of the Kyrgyz-Tajik state border.
