Bishkek, July 28, 2019. /Kabar/. Military climbers from Russia, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan climb Lenin Peak, the press service of the Kyrgyz Armed Forces General Staff said.
On 21 July, a group of military climbers from Russia and Uzbekistan arrived in Kyrgyzstan to climb Lenin Peak from 22 July to 15 August 2019.
The height of Lenin Peak is 7134 meters, it is located in the Chong-Alay valley and is one of the highest peaks of Central Asia.
The group includes 2 members of the Kyrgyz Armed Forces. To date, the climbers have already overcome the first (4400 m) of the 4 camps located on the route to the peak. The altitude itself is planned to be conquered August 6 or 7.
The ascent is held in the form of an international meeting of servicemen and athletes of the Commonwealth of Independent States at the initiative of Kyrgyzstan and is held for the first time - such events with the participation of military climbers were not carried out even during the Soviet Union.
The main purpose of the ascent is to strengthen friendly relations, exchange technical methods of climbing, popularization and development of mountaineering in the armed forces of the CIS countries. It is held within the framework of the decision of the CIS Council of Heads of State and is dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War.
