AKIPRESS.COM - Thousands have blocked the Urgench-Hazarasp road in Urgench district, Khorezm region in the evening of July 26, centralasian.org reports. One of the protesters said owners of 400 demolished houses were placed in a tent camp along the road and still have not received compensations for their destroyed houses, whereas the prices for construction materials went up.
The region governor came to the tent camp, where he met people, who do not have protest moods. The protesters then cut the rope of the tent with the governor and his aides inside. The governor escaped from the tent and tried to ride away in his car. However, thousands of elderly people, women and men blocked the road. People began throwing stones into the cars.
The road was cleared from protesters by forces of the National Guard and police.
On July 27, Prime Minister Abdulla Aripov arrived in Khorezm region to study the situation on the ground. The Prime Minister promised the compensations for the demolished houses will be paid in full.
