Bishkek, July 30, 2019 /Kabar/. The Information campaign for the youth of the Kyrgyz Republic on sustainable use of natural resources, climate change and integration into the Youth United Nations Global Alliance (YUNGA) UN FAO project’s final session took place in the Kyrgyz Ministry of Education and Science, the press service of the UN FAO program reported.
"The interest of youth groups in solving environmental problems and their activity determine the face of the future and, in many respects, the present of our country," Nadira Dzhusupbekova, Deputy Minister of Education noted in her welcoming speech.
The project, aimed at work in nature protection, forest conservation and biodiversity protection was implemented in pilot schools throughout the country. More than 1000 young people were involved in various environmental activities.
"In line with FAO's new strategic goals, support for young people is a priority area. We see the importance of involving young people in nature conservation, forest conservation and the protection of biodiversity," said Dinara Rakhmanova, the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in Kyrgyzstan Deputy Representative.
The final session was attended by the leading ecologists of Kyrgyzstan, representatives of schools from 7 pilot regions, as well as a number of the capital’s schools presented the results of environmental activities.
Kanat Kubatbekov, the project manager said one of the main achievements of the project was the possibility of integrating youth groups from Kyrgyzstan into global processes. In particular, due to numerous eco-campaigns in the country's regions, they were able to incorporate the Kyrgyz Republic to the list of member countries of the YUNGA.
Kyrgyzstan is the first post-Soviet country to launch this YUNGA initiative.
The Youth and United Nations Global Alliance (YUNGA) was created to generate collaborative initiatives between United Nations agencies, other organizations and civil society organizations working with children and young people. YUNGA is a gateway to assist the engagement of youths in activities of key environmental and social concern at the national and international level.
