Chief of Kazakhstan Railways asks Prosecutor General to toughen penalty for conductors accused of raping passenger

AKIPRESS.COM - Chairman of the JSC Kazakhstan Temir Zholy national company Sauat Mynbayev and employees of the company addressed the General Prosecutor of the country with the request to toughen the sentence of conducters accused of raping passenger in 2018, Kazinform reports. Mynbayev sent his letter to the Prosecutor General Gizat Nurdauletov.
"The leadership and employees of the Kazakhstan Railways firmly condemn the actions of former conducters Umbetaliyev Jetes and Kurmaniyazov Kolkanat, who raped the passenger on September 26, 2018," the letter says.
In this regard, the company requested to take measures on establishing the penalty for conducters.
The General Prosecutor's Office and the company have confirmed the authenticity of this letter.
A young woman was raped in train durng the trip on September 26, 2018 when she was returning home from scientific conference in Nur-Sultan.
The Kostanay court on July 26 rendered a verdict against the two men and handed 2.5 year in prison, which sparked a public outcry.
