Migrants and entrepreneurs invest over KGS 6.1 bln in regional development in 2018

Bishkek, Aug.2, 2019. /Kabar/. "In 2018, labour migrants and local entrepreneurs invested over KGS 6.1 million in development in regions of Kyrgyzstan," President Sooronbay Jeenbekov said during the Council on Relations with Compatriots Abroad meeting.
These funds were used for construction of industrial and processing enterprises, repair of social facilities and roads, as well as providing assistance to poor families.
Jeenbekov noted that he welcomes the spread of this experience throughout the country, and stressed that recently compatriots abroad have been actively investing in the development of the country's regions, especially in social and economic projects in Kyrgyzstan.
The President expressed his deep gratitude to compatriots for their support to the initiatives of the state level for the development of the regions.
"The work on the development of the regions is a priority direction of my presidential activity and will not be limited to one or two years," the head of state stressed.
He also noted, 153 different funds were created in the country in 2018 with the support of migrant workers and compatriots - the development fund, the charity fund and other similar funds, with a total capital of about KGS 2 billion.
"There is need to establish direct and close cooperation with our compatriots to ensure the efficient operation of the funds. During my trips around the country, I am convinced that funds are being created and the local population is being mobilized to address pressing issues in the regions, wherein heads of local authorities are active and show the initiative," the President stressed.
