Tashkent, Aug.5, 2019./Kabar/. UNESCO is ready to support Uzbekistan's initiative to create the first geopark in the country and throughout the CIS, as well as to hold a joint conference on this topic next year, Kristine Tovmasyan, Head of the Natural Sciences Sector in Central Asia (UNESCO) said at a briefing on the results of the First International Geotourism Forum in Shakhrisabz city of Uzbekistan.
"Naturally, it is worth noting that there is no global network of UNESCO geoparks in the CIS countries, as well as the experience that can be shared by colleagues from this network. Therefore, we have a proposal to hold a conference on geoparks next year in cooperation with Uzbekistan," the UNESCO representative concluded.
At the end of the event, the participants of the forum signed a protocol on measures to establish mutual cooperation in the field of ecological and geological tourism, exchange of experience, creation of a new tourist product and enrichment of existing programs.
Uzbekistan’s State Committee for Tourism Development together with the State Committee for Geology are planning to open for tourists a unique natural monument in the Kitob Geological Reserve - the Zinzilban section, which is a prehistoric monument to the appearance of the Earth from the world ocean and the origin of the first life on land.
