Atambayev will be summoned as suspect of grave crime now, not as witness – President Jeenbekov

AKIPRESS.COM - "If Almazbek Atambayev was invited for questioning as a witness yesterday, now he will be summoned as person suspected of committing a grave crime," President Sooronbai Jeenbekov said at the extraordinary session of the Parliament today. Atambayev violated the laws, he said.
The President reminded the Parliament earlier stripped Atambayev of his ex-president status. Five investigations linked with Atambayev are ongoing. "Besides, there are his traces in other cases. You will learn about that soon," Jeenbekov stated.
The President said the actions have been undertaken not to escalate the situation.
"Despite Atambayev's side used weapons, special force soldiers did not use it. They just used rubber bullets. All guilty will be held accountable," he promised.
The respective decision was made at the meeting of the Security Council held over the situation in Koi-Tash village of August 7, the President added.
National Security Committee Chairman Opumbaev tendered resignation at the meeting of the Security Council. "I said any post can be left any minute, but it is important to work now. We will consider responsibility of all involved upon stabilization of the situation," Sooronbai Jeenbekov said.
The President urged not to yield to provocations. "Some say the given situation is confrontation of Jeenbekov and Atambayev. This is not confrontation of two people. This is confrontation of law and arbitrariness," the President emphasized.
