AKIPRESS.COM - U.S. citizens are advised to avoid traveling to or through areas south of the reservoir in the village of Kok Jar and east of the village of Chon-Aryk. U.S. government personnel have been restricted from traveling to these areas, the U.S. Embassy alerted.
Overnight on August 7, Kyrgyz government forces entered the residence compound of former president Almazbek Atambayev, located in the village of Koi-Tash outside of Bishkek in an attempt to detain him. Violence, including shooting and rock throwing occurred and press is reporting multiple injuries on both sides and one fatality.
The situation remains fluid and civil unrest remains a high probability in the Koi-Tash area. Press is also reporting intermittent road blocks on the road leading south from Bishkek toward Koi-Tash and the Alamedin valley, the alert said.
Actions to Take:
Avoid Koi-Tash village
Avoid large crowds, gatherings, and demonstrations.
Be aware of your surroundings and local security developments.
Monitor local media.
