AKIPRESS.COM - The Italian-American multinational auto-maker Fiat Chrysler Automobiles is interested in launching a car manufacturing enterprise in Uzbekistan with foreign investment, vice president of the company Youssef Hadjas said, the Uzbekiston 24 TV channel said.
The Fiat Chrysler Automobiles suggests using the TOFAŞ project in Turkey as a guideline for setting up a joint venture in Uzbekistan.
Youssef Hadjas said that Uzbekistan is seen as the preferred location for the creation of the second enterprise for the production of Tipo, Fiorino and Doblo models under the Fiat brand.
The TOFAŞ plans to start producing crossovers in 2021 and is working on the development of a pickup model, which can also be made in Uzbekistan in the future.
Tofaş is a Turkish automaker which was established in 1968 by Vehbi Koç, who was the founder of Koç Holding, based in Bursa, Turkey, where the manufacturing plant of the company is located. It is jointly owned by Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and Koç Holding.
