Algabas village of Almaty might be flooded — Interior Ministry

AKIPRESS.COM - The Interior Ministry of Kazakhstan said the flood may hit the village of Algabas in Almaty, Sputnik Kazakhstan reported. As of noon of August 14, there is no any threat from the moraine-dammed lake to Almaty, Deputy Minister of Interior Yuri Ilyin told a press conference on emergency situation.
The emptying of lake number 1 of the Kargaly River occurred on August 14 at 6:20 am.
According to him, the population living in the Karagaly gorge was urgently informed about the emergency. Schools were prepared for evacuation of people.
Electricity and gas were cut off in the flood-prone zones for safety reasons.
The river bank has been normalized and is capable of passing up to 20 cubic meters of water per second.
The water outcrop stopped at 10:13 am, the Deputy Minister of Interior said.
