Increased seismic activity expected in Kyrgyzstan in 2019-2026 — expert

A number of earthquakes will be growing these years, Director of the Seismology Institute of the National Academy of Sciences of Kyrgyzstan Kanatbek Abdrahmatov told in the interview with AKIpress. According to him, the total number of quakes in the country from the beginning of 2019 to August 14 amounted to 6,284 cases, including 105 cases with the magnitudes of 3-4. The same number is expected until the end of this year.
The increasing activity of jolts is due to the slow speed of rotation of Earth around its own axes.
Out of the total number of earthquakes, 65% of the occur in the south of Kyrgyzstan, especially in Chon-Alay and Alay districts of Osh region, the expert said.
