AKIPRESS.COM - During the Cabinet meeting in Ulaanbaatar held on August 14, a resolution was approved to take a total of 896.5 thousand ha of land under the Tost and Toson Bumba Nature Reserve, Specially Protected Area, expanding previous boundary by 154.3 thousand ha, Montsame reports.
According to Minister of Environment and Tourism N.Tserenbat, a government resolution dated March 14, 2017 on setting boundaries of the Nature Reserve is now annulled. "A working team headed by Deputy Prime Minister U.Enkhtuvshin, Minister of Justice and Internal Affairs Ts.Nyamdorj, Minister of Mining and Heavy Industry D.Sumiyabazar, head of Cabinet Secretariat L.Oyun-Erdene and Minister of Environment and Tourism N.Tserenbat has been established to conduct inspections on all mining and exploration licenses to check if they have violations in their operations."
Prime Minister U.Khurelsukh, on August 12, called an immediate meeting to give an order to Minister of Environment and Tourism N.Tserenbat to reset boundaries of the Tost and Toson Bumba Mountain Nature Reserve and examine all licenses issued for mining and exploration activities on the territory. He also ordered to withdraw the special mining license held by South Gobi Coal Trans LLC, conducting mining activities on the Tost and Toson Bumba Mountain area in Gurvan Tes soum of Umnugobi aimag. Following his order, specialized inspection agency and law enforcement officials closed down the operations and took the territory of the company's mine site under protection.
