AKIPRESS.COM - On the sidelines of the government session, Minister of Interior of Kazakhstan Erlan Turgumbayev said that the rescue operation of the Kazakh alpinists on the Tian Shan becomes difficult due to the absence of their exact location, Zakon.kz reports.
"As the Victory Peak is located on the territory of the Kyrgyz Republic, a rescue operation has been created yesterday. A permit was obtained from the Kyrgyz border services for using aircraft. But our rescue helicopter, which had already been prepared yesterday at the bottom of a mountain, could not ascend due to the weather conditions," he said.
According to him, a rescue operation resumed today at 10:00 am local time.
"Skilled rescuers are on the board. The helicopter is designed for special mountaineous ground. But again, you understand that no aircraft can move up to 6,000 meters height. Of course, it will fly the maximum level. Everything becomes difficult as there is no exact information about alpinists' location. Therefore, there will be very wide coverage. We asked special services to determine at least approximate location," Turgumbayev noted.
"Today at 8:57 am, MI-171 of the Interior Ministry departed from the alpinist camp Karkara in Almaty region to the Kyrgyz Republic for search and rescue operation. Three military alpinists are on the board who will be deployed at the South Inylchek (4,500 meters). Then they will move up on foot," spokesman of the emergency situations committee Nursultan Nurakhmetov said earlier.
A group of Kyrgyz alpinists will join the rescue operation.
A daughter of one of the climbers Aigul earlier told about the situation on social media.
"A group of three climbers are trapped in the Victory peak supposedly at the height of 6,600 meters. The weather conditions and lack of equipment made it impossible to come back to the base camp. Those left alive Murat Otepbayev and Andrey Korneyev do not have an opportunity to connect with anyone," Aigul reported.
