Kazakhstan won't change law on elections — Nazarbayev

AKIPRESS.COM - Kazakhstan will not change the law on elections and next regional elections and elections in the Parliament will be held on a party list basis, Vlast.kz reports.
The first President Nursultan Nazarbayev at the extended session of the polical council of Nur-Otan party explained that the majority voted system for Kazakhstan is not relevant, as it is specific for Asian countries, where the party system is not permitted, but is oriented for a specific person.
"The next election of local bodies, as well as in the Mazhilis, will be held on a party list basis," Nazarbayev said.
He noted that that election in Europe, which we call a "beacon of democracy", is held under the proportional representation system.
Today activists in Nur-Sultan at a press conference demanded introduction of amendments to the election legislation of Kazakhstan and holding a referenda for this purpose.
