AKIPRESS.COM - The population of a bar-headed goose is growing at the nature park Karatal-Japyryk on the territory of the reserved site of the Chatyr-Kul lake, the press service of the State Agency for Environmental Protection and Forestry reported.
The Chatyr-Kul lake is the only place in Kyrgyzstan, where viable population of bar-headed goose has been preserved and is in satisfactory condition.
A number of water birds here is much more than in the Son-Kul, as the Chatyr-Kul lake is located on bordering zone. Most number of water birds were registered in Kara-Suu, Torugart, Kok-Argyn settlements, the Agency says.
The nature park is home to gray ducks, teal-whistle, teal-cracker, shirokonoski, the most common red-headed and crested dives. They continue their way to the Issyk-Kul lake during migration period.
In summer period, most part of the birds is observed in the eastern part of the Chatyr-Kul. Among the birds, mountain goose, whooper swan and black-headed are in the list of those endandered.
The territory of the reserved site in the Chatyr-Kul occupies 22,187.6 ha, including dryland of 5,982 ha, water area of 16,305.6 ha. Security status as a reserved site is valid on the whole territory of the lake.
The Chatyr-Kul lake is the only alpine lake not only in Kyrgyzstan, but also in Central Asia, where 9 species of wetland birds nest. More than 50 species are found during autumn migrations. The lake plays a huge role in the life of the Asian population of redfin or red duck, which make up about 40% of the world population, during molting and after nesting migrations more than 20 thousand species gather here.
