General Staffs chiefs of CIS discuss military and political situation on Commonwealth’s southern borders

Bishkek, Aug.26, 2019. /Kabar/. First Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Kyrgyz Armed Forces Nurlan Kiresheyev took part in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) Committee Regular Session, held in Dushanbe, Tajikistan under the chairmanship of Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, First Deputy Defence Minister Valery Gerasimov.
The Kyrgyz General Staff’s press service said that delegations from the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan participated in the work of the Committee.
The session participants analyzed the military and political situation on the southern borders of the Commonwealth, current challenges and threats to security and exchanged views on the issues of countering international terrorism.
In order to improve the level of operational and combat training of the armed forces of the CIS member states, the General Staff chiefs heard information about the Center-2019 Strategic Command and Staff Exercise and the joint anti-terrorist exercise of the CIS countries.
The decisions taken during the session of the Committee are aimed at developing the system of multilateral military cooperation taking into account common and national interests.
