Kyrgyz government passes law on protection of women and children from abuse during emergency situations

AKIPRESS.COM - The government of Kyrgyzstan has passed the bill on procedure of cooperation of state bodies and local self-governments, as well as other organizations and citizens on reduction of abuse risks towards women and children during the emergency and crisis situations. According to the law of the government dated August 22, 2019, the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Labor and Social Development, the General Staff of the Armed Forces are obliged to provide a mechanism of interaction on prevention, elimination and responding to gender violence amid emergency and crisis situations.
The bill was proposed for public discussion in February 2019.
The justification note says that the measures on prevention, elimination and responding to gender violence during emergency and crisis situations are the component part of actions on civil protection aimed at protection and providing security to more vulnerable population (women and girls).
The authors of the bill also told that this was a first document that comprises new terms as "gender violence", "persons affected by gender violence".
