Bishkek, Aug.28, 2019. /Kabar/. Deputy Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan Altynai Omurbekova held a regular meeting of the inter-ministerial working group on the implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, the Government's press service said.
At the meeting, taking into account the previously voiced proposals, the Draft Plan of Priority Measures for the Implementation of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in the Kyrgyz Republic for 2019-2022, and the project on the establishment of the Council for Persons with Disabilities under the Government were presented; as well as the project on the reform of the Republican Center of Medical and Social Expertise under the Kyrgyz Labour Ministry.
The meeting participants made additional proposals to the projects, after completion of which these documents will be submitted to the ministries and departments for approval.
Altynai Omurbekova noted given the short time frame for implementation, members of the inter-ministerial working group should begin to develop a draft program Accessible Country, aimed at eliminating discrimination against persons with disabilities in various areas of public life and creating accessible infrastructure in the cities, districts and villages of the country.
She added that the next session on this topic will be a retreat to monitor the accessibility of Bishkek for people with disabilities.
The participants drew attention to the problems of lack of specialists in working with people with disabilities, the need to increase benefits for citizens of this category, the lack of programs for early detection of health problems, improvement of urban infrastructure and employment of citizens with disabilities.
The ratification of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities was signed by President of Kyrgyzstan on March 14, 2019. Within the framework of its implementation, the main work is aimed at providing people with disabilities with habilitation and rehabilitation services, increasing their life expectancy, providing medical and social assistance, expanding access to education, justice, labour, freedom of movement, accessible environment and universal design for people with disabilities.
