Bishkek, Aug.30, 2019. /Kabar/. President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sooronbay Jeenbekov received President of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL) Jamie Fly.
Jeenbekov congratulated Jamie Fly on his appointment to the new post, wishing him success in his work, the Kyrgyz President's press service reported.
The Kyrgyz leader noted Kyrgyzstan highly appreciates the principles of democracy and transparency, and the country has all the necessary conditions for the free and full-fledged work of the media.
Jamie Fly noted with satisfaction the positive democratic processes, the degree of openness and freedom of speech in Kyrgyzstan.
He added the successful work of Radio Liberty in the country is conditioned, inter alia, by the openness and conditions, created for the media in Kyrgyzstan.
At the meeting, the sides exchanged views on measures to strengthen freedom of speech and the role of the media in building a democratic society.
RFE/RL Board of Directors has named Jamie Fly as the company’s President and CEO, effective Aug.1, 2019.
Daisy Sindelar served as the company’s Acting Director since Dec.7, 2018.
Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL) is a United States government-funded organization that broadcasts and reports news, information and analysis to countries in Eastern Europe, Central Asia and the Middle East where it says that "the free flow of information is either banned by government authorities or not fully developed". RFE/RL is a 501(c)(3) corporation supervised by the U.S. Agency for Global Media, an agency overseeing all U.S. federal government international broadcasting services.
