AKIPRESS.COM - Activists of Qyan, Qazaqstan movement (QQ) are marching on the streets of Almaty with the call to reform the Constitution and re-establish Kazakhstan into a parliamentary state, Vlast.kz reported.
"This march is for a constitutional reform. We demand a parliamentary country and democratization," one of the activists said.
The activists are carrying the flag of the movement, banners and posters saying "parliamentary state" and reconstruction".
Police have not yet intervened in the march with participation of several dozens of people.
The activists had warned about their plans to hold a marching on August 19. On August 25, they published their statement, where activists claim that the laws adopted by authorities over the last years have turned Kazakhstan into the autocratic state.
"The Constitution of Kazakhstan adopted on August 30, 1995 laid a foundation for the autocratic model of management headed by President, who was lifting restrictions to form a government by a single person by every new amendments. The President got the whole executive branch and even possibly he himself was adopting decrees having the power of constitutional law. The parliament and judicial system became subordinate elements of the presidential power losing any independence. As a result, the rights and freedom of a person proposed in the Constitution of Kazakhstan in fact are not guaranteed by independent branches of the power (court and parliament). In this regard, we are rightless citizens and can not protect our rights and freedom on par with the government," the activists said.
