AKIPRESS.COM - The production chromium ore over the last seven months has increased by 6% to 4 million tonnes compared to the same period last year, New Europe reports.
According to a report by the US Geological Survey, 95% of the world's resources of chromium are geographically concentrated in Kazakhstan and South Africa.
In 2018, Kazakhstan was the third-largest producer of chromite with 4.6 million tonnes. South Africa and Turkey held the top two positions with 16 million and 6.5 million tonnes produced, respectively.
At the same time, Kazakhstan ranks first in terms of reserves of chromite ore with 230 million tonnes, followed by South Africa with 200 tonnes, and India's 100 tonnes.
According to the results of the first seven months of this year, the extraction of chrome concentrates this year increased by 5.3% and reached 2.9 million tonnes.
