AKIPRESS.COM - Osh region administration's press secretary Nurkyz Kadyrbek kyzy told Turmush 407 ha of land surrounding the Karkidon water reserve were ceded by Kyrgyzstan to Uzbekistan. In return Kyrgyzstan obtained the same size territory of Uzbekistan near Gulbar village of Aravan district. Osh region administration vice chief Baish Yusupov, who is member of the interstate commission for border delimitation and demarcation, said Uzbekistan and Kyrgyztan exchanged same size territories.
Gulbar village is part of Kerme-Too rural municipality. The land Kyrgyzstan will obtain from Uzbekistan lies along the Osh-Aravan road. The area had the barbed fencing before. After demarcation, the fencing was moved further into the territory of Uzbekistan, district governor Kurbanbek Aitibaev said.
The Uzbek side has stopped engineering works on the Uzbek-Kyrgyz border it started on September 10 after citizens of Kyrgyzstan tried to oppose the process. They believed the border delimitation was not completed there yet.
The State Border Service said the Uzbek border guards were clearing the road along the state borderline with use of construction machines, such as dump trucks and excavators. The border was defined there.
The citizens of the nearby Kyrgyz village tried to oppose the process, believing the border there remains undefined.
Aravan district governor Kurbanbek Aitibaev said the Uzbek side tried to install fencing around the Karkidon water reservoir. He said the border delimitation was accomplished there and only demarcation process remained to undertake.
