AKIPRESS.COM - The law to provide 30% of reserve for women in the early elections for Sarui village council will be implemented for the first time in the Issyk-Kul region on Sept 22, said the representative of public association "Social technologies agency" Zulfia Kochorbayeva at the press conference in AKIpress on Sept 17. The law was signed by President Sooronbai Jeenbekov in August 2019.
According to her, Sarui polling station will become a pilot electoral area, where mechanism for reserving mandates for women in village council will be implemented for the first time in the history of the elections in Kyrgyzstan.
The certain quotas are implemented in over 120 UN member-states to ensure gender representation of women in elected bodies. The current model of mandates reservation was proposed to Kyrgyzstan's village councils.
The adopted law will stimulate the change of situation and life in the regions, said the member of Joosh village council in Kara-Suu district of the Osh region Avazkan Ormonova.
The conference participants noted that all sections of the population should participate in the adoption of important, political, state and social decisions.
