Bishkek, Sept.18, 2019. /Kabar/. The National Center for Maternity and Childhood Protection (NCMCP) within the framework of the agreement with the Lehnhardt German Foundation on Sept. 18-21 has begun to conduct cochlear implantation of 12 children born in 2015-2017, the press service of the Kyrgyz Health Ministry reported.
According to the ministry’s data, operations will be carried out by Professor Fedoseyev (Moscow) and ENT specialists of the NCMCP department.
Cochlear implantation is one of the most effective ways to rehabilitate children with severe hearing loss. Given the high cost of cochlear implants and the absence of a state program to support deaf children, the number of deaf children in the country is increasing every year.
Since 2016, 28 cochlear implant surgeries have been carried out in Bishkek with the support of the Lehnhardt German Foundation and with great support from the Hear Together Public Association of Parents of Children with Cochlear Implants.
