Kazakhstan's General Prosecutor's Office urges citizens not to believe Ablyazov

AKIPRESS.COM - "Don't believe Ablyazov," chief of the social protection service of the General Prosecutor's Office of Kazakhstan Saparbel Nurpeisov said Thursday at the briefing.
According to him, the fugitive ex-banker Mukhtar Ablyazov is financing rallies in Kazakhstan with money embezzled by him from Kazakh nation.
"Kazakhstan continues persecution of Ablyazov. He understands it and scares. He continues complaining about persecution on political motives. Although there is no any political matter in his case," Nurpeisov said calling citizens to refrain from provocations.
Ablyazov is accused of embezzling financial means of the BTA Bank from 2005-2009. The total damage is estimated at at least $6 billion. In June 217, a specialized inter-district criminal court of Almaty found him guilty and sentenced in absentia to 20 years in prison with confiscation of property.
