AKIPRESS.COM - Minister of Interior of Kazakhstan Erlan Turgumbayev during the government session answered the question concerning the lack of special equipment for extinguishing fires in preserved areas of the country, Zakon.kz reports.
"We can not have helicopters for fire fighting in every natural reserve. Helicopters are distributed across the regions. We have Mi-17 in 4 regions. This helicopter raises heavy containers with water and is used for fighting fire. In urgent situations, they are attracted and delivered to the place of the fire. I repeat, we have many natural resreves and we so not have enough helicopters for each of them - we just can not afford them," the Minister noted.
According to him, the reason for a major fire at Bayanaul national park was burning dried grass on September 22.
Turgumbayev said the fire is almost eliminated now.
