Bishkek, Sept.23, 2019. /Kabar/. As part of the Fourth Meeting of Speakers of the Eurasian Parliaments (Kazakhstan), Kyrgyzstan’s Parliament (Jogorku Kenesh) Speaker Dastanbek Dzhumabekov met with Shukurdzhon Zukhurov, Chairman of Tajikistan’s Supreme Assembly (Majlisi Oli).
At the meeting, Dzhumabekov assured that Kyrgyzstan attaches special importance to the further development of friendly relations with Tajikistan on the basis of mutual trust and respect for each other's interests, the press service of Jogorku Kenesh reported.
"One of the primary tasks of the Parliaments of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan is to preserve and increase the invaluable legacy of strong friendship and unbreakable brotherhood, which we have carried through the years of joint history," Speaker Dzhumabekov said.
His Tajik counterpart Shukurdzhon Zukhurov said they had met many times before within the framework of various international events and spoke about the importance of good neighborliness and interaction. He believes that this practice should be continued.
Zukhurov noted the border issues should be resolved as soon as possible, as further deepening of bilateral cooperation depends on it.
Speaking about border issues, Dzhumabekov stressed that on July 26 this year, for the first time in the history of bilateral cooperation of the two countries, Presidents of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan met on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border.
The Kyrgyz Parliament speaker expressed hope the meetings of the working groups of the government commissions of the two countries will allow finding common ground on description and mutual exchange of the remaining areas. This will help speed up the process of delimitation of the Kyrgyz-Tajik state border.
Both sides concluded that the legalization of the state border would allow states to focus on enhancing bilateral cooperation across a wide range of areas and would also contribute to ensuring stability and security on borders and in the Central Asian region as a whole.
