AKIPRESS.COM - President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayaev on September 24 met with UN Secretary General António Guterres on on the sidelines of the 74th session of the UN General Assembly, the President's press service said. The head of state underlined the important role of the Organization in maintaining international stability and security, prevention and regulation of international conflicts.
The President said that Kazakhstan plans to implement the UN Sustainable Development Goals until 2030, as they are be aligned with the plans on further economic and social modernization of the country.
The UN Secretary General positively assessed the current cooperation of Kazakhstan with the UN system in terms of execution of the Sustainable Development Goals.
He stressed the leading position of Kazakhstan on promotion of global anti-nuclear agenda and thanked Tokayev for opening of the international organizations in Almaty that put together 16 regional representatives of the UN.
During the talks, the two discussed further cooperation issues, including strengthening participation of the country in peaceful operations under the aegis of the international community.
