Bishkek, Sept.25, 2019. /Kabar/. On Sept. 25-27 Bishkek will host the International Workshop on Strengthening Parliamentary Control in Kyrgyzstan, the press service of the Parliament reported.
The aim of the Workshop is to increase the focus of the Jogorku Kenesh (Kyrgyz Parliament) on its oversight function and to raise awareness of the improved oversight procedures and regulations that are currently being developed and will be implemented.
One of the objectives of the Workshop is also to establish a link between the parliamentary oversight function and the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), as well as to enhance the role of the Kyrgyz Parliament in the nationalization of the SDGs.
The event is held for members of Parliament and the apparatus of the Jogorku Kenesh, members of the Government, as well as for Parliaments of countries, actively involved in supporting progress in parliamentary oversight, national and international civil society organizations, as well as practitioners from UNDP, OGP, OSCE and other development partners.
President of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly Georgy Tsereteli, parliamentarians from Georgia, the European Parliament, Serbia and Ukraine, experts from the United Kingdom, Greece, the OSCE PA and Tajikistan are expected to participate.
The Wprkshop is expected to provide an opportunity for parliamentarians to exchange experiences, identify next steps and strengthen parliamentary cooperation in this area.
The event will aim to develop a commitment and plan (key actions, mechanisms and procedures) to strengthen the monitoring role and function of the Jogorku Kenesh.
