AKIPRESS.COM - Russia imposed taxes on Google since 2017 in order to create equal conditions for paying VAT for electronic services both for Russian and foreign companies, said Head of the Value Added Tax Department of the Department of Corporate Taxation Sergey Semenov during the panel session held on the sidelines of the Eurasian Week 2019 forum in Bishkek on Wednesday.
He said Russia understands that the electronic services are transboundary, but at that moment, Russian companies providing electronic services paid taxes, while foreign companies did not.
When introducing the law, it was assumed that the big companies providing electronic services would voluntarily get registered with the authorities and start paying taxes because they value their reputation. And they did so, Semenov said.
