Bishkek, Sept.26, 2019. /Kabar/. Within the framework of participation in the General Debate of 74th session of the UN General Assembly, Kyrgyzstan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Chingiz Aidarbekov held a meeting with UN Secretary General António Guterres.
During the meeting, the sides exchanged views on topical issues on the current agenda of the world organization and international relations, the press service of the Kyrgyz Foreign Ministry reported.
FM Aidarbekov noted Kyrgyzstan supports the secretary general on UN reform in promoting the Sustainable Development Goals and countering contemporary challenges and threats.
The minister positively noted the activities of the UN in the field of implementation of various programs and projects, aimed at achieving the Sustainable Development Goals in the world, including Kyrgyzstan, noting that the leadership of the Kyrgyz Republic at the national level has adopted a number of strategic documents on sustainable development of the country in all areas.
Aidarbekov reported on the preparation of the Voluntary National Review in the Kyrgyz Republic, adding that Kyrgyzstan consistently continues to follow the chosen path, developing parliamentary democracy and strengthening its national institutions.
Aidarbekov and Guterres discussed the implementation of various projects and programs, aimed at protecting the environment and reducing the risks of natural disasters, fighting terrorism and extremism, drug trafficking, as well as increasing regional cooperation in Central Asia, including addressing the problems of radioactive tailing dams and the use of water resources.
