Lawyer from Kyrgyzstan receives UNHCR Nansen Refugee Award

AKIPRESS.COM - A Kyrgyz lawyer Azizbek Ashurov received the Nansen Refugee Award during the ceremony on October 7 in Geneva held as part of the 70th session of the Executive Committee of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, the Kyrgyz foreign ministry said. The Nansen Committee highly appreciated the activities of Ashurov and his "Lawyers of the Ferghana Valley without Borders" organization for eradicating statelessness and praised his achievements as an example of successful cooperation between the state and civil society.
UNHCR High Commissioner Filippo Grandi highlighted the work of the state bodies of Kyrgyzstan in issuance of citizenship. Kyrgyz Minister of Foreign Affairs Chingiz Aidarbekov and head of the State Registration Service Almaz Mambetov who attended the awards ceremony were thanked for their in this field.
