Kyrgyz lawmaker suggests to hike fine for drunk driving up to 150,000 soms

AKIPRESS.COM - Because of increased fines, the number of moving violations related to drunk driving has decreased compared to last year, said chief of road police Azamat Israilov on Oct 8 during the session of parliament committee for law and order.
Current fine for drunk driving in Kyrgyzstan is 17,500 soms. The drunk driving accounts for 4-5% of all moving violations.
MP Urmat Samaev suggested to hike fines up to 150,000 soms ($2,147).
"In Kazakhstan, the fine for drunk driving is 500,000 tenge equivalent to 150,000 soms. We need to introduce this much fines. Drunk driver poses threat not only to themselves, but others," Samaev said.
