AKIPRESS.COM - A man suspected of extortion of money from Kyrgyzstanis in Novosibirsk, where a mass fight occurred between the suspect's supporters and victims of extortion, was detained, Novosibirsk police said.
A 31-year-old resident of Novosibirsk with previous criminal record and his 29-year-old accomplice were detained for extortion and hooliganism.
According to the Russian media, one of the suspects is businessman Abdirashid Akhmedov. He is the head of the Tamerlane company, which is engaged in the wholesale trade of fruits and vegetables. Akhmedov did not plead guilty in a video footage spreading among the Russian news outlets.
A mass fight involving citizens of Kyrgyzstan occurred at a market in Novosibirsk on October 7 reportedly because native of Kyrgyzstan extorted money from several Kyrgyz citizens. The perpetrator and his people beat up Kyrgyzstanis, extorted money and not allowed to work normally in the marketplace, according to the reports.
The Kyrgyzstanis fed up with it and set the car of the perpetrator on fire.
According to Russian news agency Vesti, over 200 people were involved in the mass fight, 50 of them were attested. A police officer had to make several warning shots into the air and call the backup, Vesti reports. Policemen and special purpose soldiers arrived on the scene, the streets were cordoned off. 5 people were hospitalized with rubber bullet wounds, according to the Novosibirsk Online.
