AKIPRESS.COM - Russian President Vladimir Putin gifted a red-listed gyrfalcon to the King of Saudi Arabia Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud during his official visit to Riyadh on October 14.
The bird was raised in Issyk-Kul in the Muras Russian-Kyrgyz centre, said the director of the centre, Shuhrat Razakov.
A pilot project was launched in the Issyk-Kul region in 2016, and the Russian-Kyrgyz falconry center "Muras" was established. 260 species of gyrfalcon were brought in together with Arab ornithologists, whose roots go back to Kamchatka and the northern territories of Russia, Razakov shared.
The purpose of the project was to save the biodiversity of red-listed falcons.
"The territory in Tyup district of Issyk-Kul region was chosen because it is similar to the habitat of these birds: mountains, coolness. We have created a nursery together using new technologies," he said.
