AKIPRESS.COM - Activities of Scientologists were suspended in Kyrgyzstan, said Director of the State Religious Affairs Commission Zayirbek Ergeshov.
The parliament is discussing draft amendments to the law on freedom of religion and religious organizations in the second reading.
During discussions, MP Dastan Bekeshev asked about the status of Scientologists in Kyrgyzstan, to which Director of the State Religious Affairs Commissio said the movement does not function in Kyrgyzstan. "When we told them we would ban them in Kyrgyzstan, they withdrew their application for registration," Ergeshov said.
Islamic and Christian religions are mainly practiced in Kyrgyzstan, there are also such religious movements as Sunni, Shia, Baha'i, Buddhist, and 1 Jewish organization.
Bekeshev also asked why can't atheist organization get registered in Kyrgyzstan.
Ergeshov said because they want to get registered as the Tengrians. "People are free to practice or not to practice any religion, according to Constitution," he said.
