AKIPRESS.COM - Chairman of the border service of the National Security Committee of Kazakhstan Darkhan Dilmanov said that two ethnic Kazakhs from Xinjiang, who illegally crossed the state border face up to 1 year in prison, Sputnik Kazakhstan reports. According to Dilmanov, some "high officials", including chief of the border detachment, commanders, are involved in the violation of state border by these men.
One of the officials was dismissed, he said.
The two refugees, who claimed they fled China in October, were transferred from Almaty to the Zaisan bordering town for investigation activities. According to the attorneys, they are taken into custody in Ust-Kamenogorsk city.
The 30- and 25-year old men were arrested this October in Almaty. One of the refugees told a press conference that he was kept in a camp, where he was allegedly put pressure and beaten up. Prior to their arrest, they were heading to the local migration police to tell about their escape from China.
Meanwhile, Dilmanov said no indulgence will be made. "Illegal crossing of state border is an illegal act. We don't have any other claims against them," he noted.
