AKIPRESS.COM - Indonesia's Under-19 national football team players jumped for joy after their 1-1 draw with North Korea in the 2020 Asian Football Cup U-19 Championship qualifying round at the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium in Central Jakarta on Sunday. The result was enough for the Young Garudas to secure them a place in the final rounds in Uzbekistan next year. The visitors took an early lead through Kim Kwang Chong's goal in the 40th minute, as the hosts got themselves frustrated by failing to convert numerous chances into a goal until the break, Jakarta Globe reports.
The home crowd finally went wild when Amiruddin Bagus Kahfi came up with the equalizer from the penalty spot 61 minutes into the game. The penalty was awarded after Bagus was roughed up inside the box.
The last half an hour of the game had many nail-biting moments for the Indonesian fans as their team tried to stave off a stronger North Korean side who has never failed to qualify to the final rounds before.
Relief washed over the packed stadium as referee Mahmood Salim from Oman blew the final whistle with no more goals added to the scoreline.
Indonesia leads their group with seven points, two clear off North Korea. Only the winner of the group qualifies for Uzbekistan next year.
