UN Security Council should guarantee North Korea in case of refusal from nuclear weapon — Nazarbayev

AKIPRESS.COM - The United Nations Security Council should work out a real security guarantee for North Korea to refuse from using nuclear weapon, the First President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev said at the Astana Club forum today, Vlast.kz reports.
He says formation of a schedule of measures between Pyohgyang and Seoul could stabilize the situation on the the Korean Peninsula.
"We are concerned with escalation of tensions around North Korea. The only way to resolve the problem, I think, is development of real security guarantees for North Korea from all members of the UN Security Council. This would lead North Korea to conclude the necessary agreements on termination of the nuclear program," Nazarbayev noted.
The former President proposed to use the platform of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-building Measures in Asiad to discuss these issues.
