AKIPRESS.COM - The Boxing Federation of Pakistan concluded an agreement with Mongolia, according to which 5 leading boxers will be sent to Mongolia for a monthly workout for the 2020 qualifier. "We held talks with Mongolia, they agreed," secretary of the Federation colonel of Pakistan Nasir Tung told in the interview with The News on the sidelines of the 33th National Games.
The qualifying matches are scheduled for February 2020. Nasir said that the selection of boxers will be held in Nepal on December 1-10, 2019.
The Pakistani boxing suffers as other sports in the country due to the lack of funding. The country failed to finance fully its participation in the international events after the 18th Asian Games that were held on Indonesia last year.
Most Pakistani boxers live abroad, such as Amir Khan, a British Pakistani, who is a silver medalist and also a former welterweight champion. Jawid Khalik is also a very successful British Pakistani boxer of Kashmiri descent who was IBO welterweight champion.
