Hepatitis A is a viral liver disease that can cause mild to severe illness. The hepatitis A virus (HAV) is transmitted through ingestion of contaminated food and water or through direct contact with an infectious person. Almost everyone recovers fully from hepatitis A with a lifelong immunity, according to the World Health Organization.
Hepatitis A signs and symptoms can include:
* Fatigue.
* Sudden nausea and vomiting.
* Abdominal pain or discomfort, especially on the upper right side beneath your lower ribs (by your liver)
* Clay-colored bowel movements.
* Loss of appetite.
* Low-grade fever.
* Dark urine.
* Joint pain.
