About 100 Kazakhstanis in conflict zones in Middle East – National Security Committee

AKIPRESS.COM - The National Security Committee of Kazakhstan said there are more than 90 Kazakhstanis on the territory of Syria today, Azattyk reports. About 56 of them are women. Two of them are in the camps or prisons. Six more women are taken into custody inm Iraq. A total of about 100 citizens of Kazakhstan are in the conflict zone of the Middle East.
According to the Committee, 277 adults (57 men and 220 women) and 547 minors were returned home from Syria and Iraq.
Among those returmed, 44 people including 10 women were sentenced to different sentences from 1 year to 11 years on scuh accusations as participation in the activities of terrorist organizations, foreign armed conflicts, propoganda of terrorism, recruitment, financing of terrorist activities.
The Commitee said that 198 women and 545 children out of the total number of returnees from Syria and Iraq were placed to rehabilitation centers.
On November 18, the Foreign Ministry of Kazakhstan said that it is in talks with the Iraqi side on returning of more than 10 Kazakh children to Kazakhstan.
