‘16 days against violence’ campaign kicks off in Kyrgyzstan

AKIPRESS.COM - The annual "16 days against violence" campaign kicked off in Kyrgyzstan on occasion of International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and will run until Dec 10. The campaign is aimed at increasing the impatience of society towards domestic and gender abuse and increasing the awareness citizens on abuse forms, the government said.
The current campaign rally joins the efforts of government, activists and society to end violence against women and girls through various events, rallies and campaigns.
The domestic abused is acute issue in Kyrgyzstan. 5,185 cases of domestic violence were registered in 10 months of 2019, as well as 3,647 cases of psychical violence, 1,362 cases of psychological violence, 7 cases of sexual violence, 1 case of economic violence and 168 cases of sexism. The interior affairs bodies issued 5,185 protection orders for 4,876 men, which made up 94.1% from total amount of orders. 309 protection order were issued for women. 5,569 persons suffered domestic abuse.
